Understand the idea
Kafka's novella begins with Gregor Samsa's unexplained bodily transformation and follows the strain on his work and family relationships. A productive reading asks how usefulness, dependence, communication, and disgust shape recognition of a person. The transformation need not be decoded as a single symbol. Track changes in how others respond as his former economic role disappears. These are interpretive possibilities to test against scenes, not conclusions about the author's one intended message. [S18]
Worked example
Build a timeline of Gregor's ability to earn, his attempts to communicate, and others' responses. Compare two moments at which care changes. Test whether loss of income alone explains them, or whether the account needs other factors.
Where the idea stops
No single allegory exhausts the novella. Avoid equating disability with loss of humanity, and do not reproduce the linked copyrighted translation inside the app. [S18]
Connect it
